I stumbled on May Archer on Goodreads and by golly was that a lucky find! I can't believe that she hadn't hit my radar until recently (I have only myself to blame for that). This story is the first in what is currently a four part series (three novels and a novella) and it was sweet, sexy and a little bit sassy.
What would you do to clear the name of the only person who's ever cared for you? FBI Agent Kendrick 'Cort' Cortland is faced with that question when a report concludes his brother Damon was the pilot that caused the death of the Seavers and their son's fiancee. He doesn't believe his brother could have done and he'll break rules, and potentially hearts, to prove it.
Camden Seaver has had to take the reigns of the family business when his brother Sebastian falls apart. He is the reluctant head of what's left of his family and is buckling under the pressure. Add that he is struggling with his own grief and looking for a way to put the pieces of his life back together after the death of his parents and the last thing he needs is an FBI Agent to come in making threats and demands but that's exactly what he gets when he meets Cort.
Soon the two are on an island trying to figure out if Damon is truly as guilty as he seems or if there is more to the story than meets the eye.
First off I have to say that this book made me laugh, made my heart twist in angst and made me happy at the end. It was really well written and I am eager to dive into the next one in the series (which tell's Damon's story eek!).
Second, the chemistry between these two was insane and yet it was so believable. It had what I frequently refer to as an instant love connection going but it was so well done that I fell for it hook, line and sinker. They were kindred spirits, never truly feeling like they belonged and they found happiness in each other.
The mystery aspect wasn't really a whodunit. I think I knew about halfway through who was guilty but who cares? I was there for all the romance I could get and I enjoyed that the puzzle that was the mystery was easily solved. The scene at the end was scary and suspenseful and added tons of drama!
I loved the other characters that were introduced along the way. Sebastian was actually a treat towards the end and I'm secretly hoping he plays for both terms so he can get with his best friend Drew (who dated Cam but we can all agree to forget it right?). Drew was a bit of a pill at times but if he got his own story things might be revealed (maybe...) and forgiven (definitely).
I'm honestly obsessed with May Archer and I can't wait to read more from her! Her writing style is easy, humorous and right up my street! I gave it a big 5 stars!
