Man oh man was this book a favourite! I wish the second book in the series was out already because this one was everything I could ever want from a book and more! Have you ever found a book that is well written, well paced and well, plain wonderful? Because I have! The last time I read Melanie Harlow I was intrigued and now I am convinced! Convinced that her writing is brilliant that is!

So this is the story of Nate and Emme, neighbours with the best kind of relationship. Nate, a divorce lawyer is against marriage in a big way having seen how it ends and Emme is a wedding planner with a love for love the size of her big heart. Nate feels like Emme wears her heart of her sleeve and Emme feels like Nate could open up more. They start off friends, gently poking at each other’s personalities and end up much more

Nate and Emme’s relationship gets put to the test and grown when Nate receives a surprise on his doorstep...one he can’t exactly return. Soon he is turning to Emme for help and as the two spend more time together feelings that were already stirring come to the surface and are really tried and tested.

What I really loved about this book was that their relationship started on a foundation of friendship. It made it so easy to believe how their love developed and to root for them to come out the other end stronger than ever. These two bickered like friends then fought like lovers. I loved their shared love of Bond (even if they didn’t agree on who their favourite portrayal was by) and I think that the fact that they knew each other so well was really key in the fights they got into as time went on. I found this take on love so realistic and appealing.

Emme was a really sweet and funny character and I loved how she was so accident prone but just seemed to go with it. One of my favourite scenes from the book is when she starts an I kid you not fire in her apartment and Nate rushes in to save her only to find her crawling to the door to try and save him (because she heard somewhere that that's what you do in a fire...)! It was such a great introduction to their dynamic and when Nate told Emme “only you” in response to the reason for the fire, I knew I was hooked on their story.

Nate was so complicated in the way all good heroes are. Some of his motivations were hard for me to understand only because I wanted him to just open his heart and love already! I think he experienced so much in his past and when all the events are discussed in the book it helps to understand him a lot more and to empathize. I thought he was so great. I thought he was so determined to be a good person, to be deserving of Emme (even if he almost always saw himself falling short) and I honestly just wanted to climb in the book and hug him at points (after Emme was done that is).

I don’t want to ruin the book for anyone but it had one of my favourite tropes and I honestly have to say was so well written. I am so excited for more in the series and have already placed my pre-order for Only Him, expected this June! Eek!

If you can’t tell from the gushy review this book got 5 you are amazing gush, gush, gush stars!
